In Indonesia the pounded leaves are tropically applied against rheumatism or backache. The leaves (chewed) serve are remedy against toothache and the roots (in lemon juice) as a drug against ringworm. The plant is also considered as a febrifuge. A high potassium content is found in stem-tops and fresh young leaves. Other active substances are still to be isolated.
