Natural treatment with Mulberry tree/Morus Indica/Morus alba/Murbei. Mulberry/Morus Indica/Morus alba is a genus of 10-16 species of trees indigenous to the particular medium heat and subtropical regions of Asia, Africa and America. The majority of native species originating from Asia.Native in China, now widespread in cultivation in warm countries, Including Indonesia. One of them is the famous village Andaleh, Batipuh district, Tanah Datar, West Sumatra, which has reached more than 120 years of age. The decoction the leaves of Mulberry/Murbei/Murbey is used as fabrique, diuretic and galactogoge; also as depurative (treatments of ulcers).The withered leaves are used externally for wound treatment (fleshwounds). The decoction of the roots is a remedy against tooth ache and an emmenagogue (mixed with meat extract plus rice wine). In Chinese medicine the dried leaves, roots, twigs and fruits of Morus Indica/ Mulberry tree are used, in herb mixtures as well as sparatelly : decoction of the leaves for eye diseases, externally applied; decoction of the twigs against ache in the arms. Furthermore Morus indica/Morus alba is a drug against cancer, cough, diarrhea and worm diseases. A general use is sedative.
The root bark contains beta-amyrin, sitosterol,resinotannol and some volatile oil. The leaves contain carotene, succinic acid, adenine,choline, amylase; the seeds, urease; the fruits, vitamin C, sugary subtances, citric acid; the ash has a high content of calcium carbonate and silicic acid.
Experimentally extracts of Mulberry demonstrate a hormonal action. e.g. growth increase of young rats and lowering of the glucose content in the blood of test animals. Also extract of Morus alba shows an in vitro anti-fungal action.
