It looks like spinach plant, a related species, and is otherwise distinguished by its leaves, oval-long-lanceolate, 5-8 cm in length, with apex obtuse and base cuneate. Spike inflorescence in form of clews. Male clews without thorns and hanging; female clews with a pair of sharp, distanced, erect thorns. Petals 5, length 2-3 mm, threadbare, green or purple, with translucent margins. Free stamina 5. Sitting stigmata threadlike. Fruit longish globose, with falling lid, one seeded.
